Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Liverpool Community Launderette Ltd (LCL)
For the Financial Year Ending: 31.01.26
Introduction
This statement is made pursuant to Section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps that Liverpool Community Launderette Ltd (LCL) has taken — and is continuing to take — to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in its operations and supply chains.
LCL has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere within our organisation or in our supply chains.
Our Organisation
Liverpool Community Launderette Ltd, trading as Kitty’s Launderette, is a social enterprise based in Liverpool. We provide high-quality, affordable laundry services while creating a welcoming community space. Our work is rooted in cooperative principles, social justice, and environmental responsibility.
Given our small size and local operational focus, our direct supply chain is limited. However, we recognise that the risk of modern slavery exists across all sectors and we are committed to addressing those risks proactively.
Our Supply Chains
Our supply chains include:
- Suppliers of laundry equipment, detergents, and consumables
- Local contractors for maintenance, cleaning, and professional services
- Community-based programme collaborators and event facilitators
We aim to build long-term, trusted relationships with suppliers who share our commitment to human rights and fair labour practices.
Our Policies on Modern Slavery
We have a Modern Slavery Policy which outlines our zero-tolerance approach and defines our processes for prevention, detection, and response. The policy complements our:
- Safeguarding Policy
- Code of Conduct
- Whistleblowing Policy
- Ethical Procurement Guidelines
These documents collectively support a culture of transparency, accountability, and protection from exploitation.
Due Diligence Processes
To prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains, we:
- Require all new suppliers to confirm compliance with the Modern Slavery Act
- Prioritise working with ethical, locally-based suppliers
- Monitor working conditions and service contracts regularly
- Expect suppliers to have appropriate policies and controls in place
We are developing improved supplier risk assessments and training to increase vigilance across our partnerships.
Training and Awareness
We are committed to ensuring that all staff and volunteers are aware of the risks of modern slavery. To support this, we:
- Include modern slavery awareness in staff induction and safeguarding training
- Provide guidance on identifying signs of exploitation
- Promote a clear reporting route via our People Lead or Board members
Reporting Concerns
LCL encourages staff and members of the public to report any concerns related to modern slavery, whether within our operations or involving our suppliers. Concerns can be raised confidentially through our designated contacts listed in our Modern Slavery and Whistleblowing Policies.
Ongoing Commitment
Over the coming year, LCL will:
- Review and update our policies and training materials
- Strengthen supplier engagement on modern slavery issues
- Explore accreditation or best practice frameworks suitable for small ethical businesses
